The State of ThingSpeak

ThingSpeak evolved from ioBridge and its Data Logging API that allowed devices to store data in the cloud. Early on ioBridge, partnered with services like Ping.fm to send status updates and interface with social networks. But, using email and such proved to be too many links in the chain. We wanted to add social features without make a Rube Goldberg contraption. ThingSpeak features evolved from wanting to interface with Twitter, Twilio, and Facebook and to connect to low-level devices using simple API calls. ThingSpeak 2.0 is already underway, and we have new features that we will give you early access to and a chance to contribute to the design.

A big Milestone for the Internet of Things

In March 2011, we released the source code for the ThingSpeak API and user and key management web application on GitHub. Since then, users started downloading and creating variants of ThingSpeak to match their needs. It has been downloaded and installed over 500 times, forked 8 times, and followed by 160 developers.
