The D3S group in Trento, Italy has recently published a paper on ACM Trans. on Sensor Networks (TOSN) entitled “Not All Wireless Sensor Networks Are Created Equal: A Comparative Study On Tunnels”.
The paper analyzes the network characteristics of WSNs in road tunnels (with and without traffic) and compares them to vineyards, taken as a baseline representative of common outdoor deployments. The analysis is supported by a high number of experiments in real-world tunnels, carried out in the context of the TRITon project.
The datasets from the experiments are freely available to researchers on the D3S Web site.
